“A lot of people hear metrology and think it’s about meteorology and weather,” Jarrod Hankins said. “But in reality, it’s the science of measurement.”
In defense manufacturing, metrology inspectors are the last safeguard as they inspect parts before they leave the shop floor to be placed miles under water on a submarine, under thousands of pounds of pressure.
The Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program reached a significant milestone by celebrating its 1,000th program completer at graduation in July 2025. During the ceremony, Glenn Claypool waited eagerly as the countdown began. Nine hundred ninety-eight, 999, 1,000 — Claypool earned the distinction of becoming ATDM’s 1,000th program completer, a milestone he will carry throughout his career.

Glenn Claypool was recognized as the 1,000th program completer and joined fellow students in celebrating the cohort’s completion of the 16-week rigorous workforce training. Claypool discovered ATDM after completing a bachelor’s degree in business management and working in sales before deciding to pursue training in non-destructive testing.
